Against the Blue Dragon

This is a personal piece depicting my own D&D party. It was created as a wedding present for two of the people who play this campaign and whose characters are portrayed in this piece. It being my first multi-character illustration, I wanted to put special focus on the composition and flow of the piece, keep it interesting and alive yet organised enough for it to be understandable. Since the inks turned out to be the most powerful element of the piece, I decided to use a very limited colour palette, focusing on the values only (grey scale) to not draw too much attention and just aid the viewer to tell the different characters apart.
I’m very proud of this illustration and can’t wait to tackle more complicated compositions in this style in the future.

Second coloured version, with a tweaked gradient map in my usual colour palette.
